Wednesday Treat – 29th April

I’ve found something a little bit different for this week’s Wednesday Treat – funny stories from car salesmen. These are all from America but no doubt there are plenty that UK salesmen (and their customers) could tell as well. Some of these are absolutely hilarious.

Wednesday Treat: 22nd April

Last week I wrote that there are some cool cars around Honiton. This week I might that statement debatable with this.

Ford Fiesta

Yes that is a 1.1 litre Ford Fiesta and a first generation one at that! This little baby was made somewhere between 1976 and 1983 and could produce a top speed of 90mph. I think it might be a bit optimistic to believe it could do that now.

Don’t think I’m being down on this by saying it’s not cool. The colour really grabbed my eye and I find it amazing that this old girl is still on the road. It’s just not Sunbeam Rapier cool is

Wednesday Treat: 15th April

It turns out that there are some cool cars in Honiton if you just know where to look. Here is one I stumbled upon recently.

Sunbeam Rapier

Many any of you will recognise this as the beautiful Sunbeam Rapier.

There were five versions of the Rapier between 1955-1967. If you think it looks familiar but the name doesn’t ring a bell then imagine a two door version and you get a Hillman Minx.

This is example is one of the mark five models, introduced in September 1965. It’s identifiable by the grilles under the headlights, which are longer and more flat than earlier models and the circular shaped wing mirrors.

According to Honest John, 76,954 Rapiers were made. This lovely example is one of only 581 left, which saddens me. Some might argue it is just a Minx but when I saw it while walking along it put a smile on my face. With only 581 examples the chances of it putting a smile on others’ faces is dwindling.

Wednesday Treat – 18th March

It’s back to bikes for this week’s Wednesday Treat, although the probably not like one you’ve ever seen before.

For those of you who don’t know what steampunk is (and I doubt that’s many of you, you clever bunch!), it’s a sub-genre of science fiction that’s slowly become a lifestyle choice. It incorporates technology and aesthetic designs with Victorian steam power. Now virtually anything can be made in the steampunk aesthetic and that includes bikes.

As you can see this is a beautiful piece of machinery but it’s not the only one. A quick google image search of steampunk bikes produces a variety of great looking motorcycles and is well worth a look.

If you’re in any doubt that this is going to be popular avenue for bikes in the future then you just have to read this article from CBC News. Even William Shatner is getting in on the act.

Wednesday Treat 04/03/15 Alfa Romeo 1900 Sport Spider

For this week’s Wednesday treat we have to head over to Switzerland – the 85th Geneva Motor Show is open to the public tomorrow. If you can’t make it don’t think you’re going to miss out, there’s a plethora of pictures and articles already online thanks to all the lucky journos that went to the press days. While some articles may focus on the new models being brought out, there are also few other gems on show that perhaps aren’t so new, including the Alfa Romeo 1900 Sport Spider.

Wednesday Treat – 18/02/15 – Triumph Bonneville

Ok so for your first Wednesday Treat you get a gorgeous picture of a Triumph Bonneville.

For those of you that don’t know much about this beautiful machine, the Triumph Bonneville entered into production in 1959 as the latest brainchild of Triumph Engineering. Named after the legendary Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, it became extremely popular thanks to its great performance compared to other bikes at the time.
Manufacturing of the first generation of the bike continued until 1983 before a second generation came along in 1985. Sadly Triumph Engineering ceased trading and production stopped. Luckily for bike fans along came Triumph Motorcycles who created a new version of the Bonneville in 2001 which is still in production to this day. It’s thanks to them that this legend will never die.
